Job Purpose

To support the operations of the registered pharmacies of the company including supply of oncology medicinal products in a professional, effective and economic way and in accordance with current regulations and guidance, and by offering professional insight to help enhance the continuous development of the service.

Duties & Responsibilities
Ensure a Professional Supply of Medicines to Patients

1. To carry out clinical screening of all prescriptions on EDocs to ensure appropriateness of therapeutic indication, dose, frequency, form and route of administration in accordance with the Medicines Act and “Medicines, Ethics and Practice Guide.”
2. To check validity of changes to dose and medication based on patient notes on Dynamics. If notes do not support changes, raise a Document Under Investigation (DUI) and pass to pharmacy support staff to investigate. Check progress on resolution of issue and only progress when issues resolved.
3. Where relevant to role get involved in the production and dispensing of Total Parental Nutrition (TPN).
4. To oversee the dispensing and supply of medicinal products in compliance with the requirement of the Medicines, Ethics and Practice Guide” published by the General Pharmaceutical Council and Guide to Good Distribution Practice.
5. To perform final accuracy checking of dispensed items and wholesale orders according to standard operating procedures to approved protocols where required.
6. To undertake the role of Responsible Pharmacist (RP) within dispensing on a rotational basis, ensuring full compliance with the responsibilities of the RP role including that the appropriate records are made.
7. To report Adverse Events and Product Quality Complaints to pharmaceutical manufacturers with whom the company has contractual obligations for reporting.
8. Help find solutions to operational issues such as the need to source and/or supply medicines urgently, or the provision of cross-cover.

Specialist Oncology Pharmacist duties

19. Approve prescriptions for IV and Oral Oncology medications to be dispensed by the company or Bath Aseptic Unit (ASU).
21. Check pharmacist dispensing labels.
22. Order compounded IV items as per patient’s needs.
23. IQemo support and new regimen approvals.
24. Liaise with Bath ASU regarding any patient queries of IV Oncology medication. 25. Remain informed regarding changes in manufacturing practice and changes to stability information available.

Qualification and Experience

– Undergraduate Degree in Pharmacy
– Registered with the GPhC and completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as per Society guidelines
– At least 3 years’ experience working as a Pharmacist in a community or hospital environment
– At least an additional 1 years’ experience working as an Oncology Pharmacist

Desirable

– BOPA (British Oncology Pharmacy Association) Accredited
